What are the different types of gearing systems?
Which gear system suits you best depends on how, where and how often you ride. At Hase Bikes you can choose between different gear types that differ in three basic points:
Derailleur or hub gears
Derailleur gears offer a particularly wide gear range and are ideal for sporty riding, climbs or heavy loads. As fewer components are in motion, they provide higher efficiency compared to hub gears. They can also be shifted under load. With their closed design, hub gears are particularly low-maintenance and allow shifting when stationary – perfect for everyday use and longer tours.
Mechanical or electronic shifting
Mechanical gears are operated via traditional cables, are robust and simple in design. Electronic systems shift precisely at the touch of a button, sometimes even automatically – ideal for consistent riding without manual intervention.
Manual or automatic shifting
With manual gears you decide yourself when and how to shift. Automatic systems take over the shifting for you and select the right gear automatically depending on speed, cadence or terrain.
Here you will find an overview of all gear systems – with advantages, functions and the Hase Bikes models in which they can be installed.
In addition to the different systems, the gear range plays an important role when choosing the right gear system. The gear range indicates the difference between the easiest and the hardest gear. A high gear range of e.g. 500% means you can climb steep hills easily as well as ride efficiently at high speed.
