FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I order replacement parts?

You can order replacement parts and accessories from the dealer where you purchased your bike or trike, or from any bicycle shop. If you purchased your bike or trike from our Schaltwerk store, then you can take advantage of the Services offered there (only with in-store pick up).

Does Hase Bikes also offer cargo bikes?

Yes. The Gravit is a cargo bike with a large load platform that can carry up to 70 kg (154 lb). The total load capacity for the bike is an impressive 200 kg (441 lb). What makes the Gravit so special? The load platform can be removed in just a few quick steps, and the wheelbase is adjustable, like the Pino’s. This means that the frame length can be shortened, making it possible to transport the bike on a rear-mounted car rack. The bike is available in two different versions! As a pure gravel bike (Gravit DUST) and as a city bike (Gravit CITY E).

It seems that my child has outgrown our Trix, because the frame cannot be made any longer. Do we need a new trike?

In this case, the frame-quick-adjust assembly is most likely too small, and the chain is too short. You can have it replaced with the next larger frame-quick-adjust assembly and have the chain lengthened. This is how the Trix can be adapted for taller riders of up to two meters (6’7”) in height.

My child is too tall for the Trets. What trikes are available as an alternative?

If your dealer has already made all possible adjustments in order to adapt the Trets to your child (frame/front boom lengthened, seat position adjusted, chain lengthened), then the next larger trike with a medical-aid number is the Trix. The Trix is suitable for riders between 1.20 m and 2.00 m (3’11” - 6’7”) in height.

Can the costs for certain Hase Bikes models be covered by health insurance providers?

Our models Trix and Trets have medical-aid numbers for this purpose (recognized in certain countries). We offer a guide (in German) that explains the process of applying for reimbursement. Keep in mind that the costs for other bikes and trikes can also be covered by health insurance providers (at least in Germany); however, the process is somewhat more complex because of the requirements set by our healthcare system.

How can I find replacement parts for older Hase Bikes models?

We strive to provide replacement parts for as long as possible and are still able to offer various original or alternative spare parts for most old Kettwiesel/Lepus and Pino models. In some cases, the lead times for ordering special parts like these may be slightly longer.

Where can I have my Hase Bikes vehicle repaired?

In most cases, maintenance and repair work is carried out by the authorized dealer where the bike or trike was purchased. If you purchased your bike or trike directly from us at the Schaltwerk, then you can have it repaired or serviced by booking a workshop appointment in advance.

What makes the new Kettwiesel ONE so special?

With its unique ergonomics and adaptability, the Kettwiesel ONE combines two models in one as the successor model of both the Kettwiesel and the Lepus. Thanks to the height-adjustable seat, the ONE can be ridden in either a lower, sportier position (as with the Kettwiesel Evo) or a higher sitting position (as with the Lepus). Furthermore, the ONE’s frame has been completely redesigned and, with its MacPherson chassis, offers an extremely responsive and easy-to-adjust suspension system. The frame length of the ONE can also be reduced (by pushing in the front boom) to make it easier to transport. And the seat can be easily folded down, e.g. if you need to transport the trike in the back or trunk of a car.

Why do the prices of top-seller models differ from those of models with customized configurations?

Our “top-sellers” are pre-configured Hase Bikes models that are produced on an on-going basis (i.e. not only made to order). In general, they have shorter lead times and are cheaper than custom models. “Custom” in this context means made to order: Customers have a free choice of features, equipment, color, gear system, etc. This additional service is associated with higher prices. In addition, custom bikes and trikes have longer lead times than the top-seller versions.

Can I arrange a consultation or order parts, bikes, or trikes directly through Hase Bikes?

Yes. In our Waltrop flagship store, the “Schaltwerk,” it is possible to purchase bikes, trikes, and accessories directly from our headquarters. Consultation appointments can be booked directly through us.

Can I use my bike or trike from Hase Bikes to tow a bicycle trailer?

Yes, you can. A so-called Weber hitch can be mounted to any of our models (except the Trets). There are numerous bicycle-trailer manufacturers who use this hitch system for their trailers. Nevertheless, every trailer should be taken on a test ride with your bike or trike prior to purchase in order to ensure that its turning radius is suitable for the bike or trike: For example, the trailer or hitch arm should not come in contact with the rear wheels of the trike when turning right or left. Keep in mind: The Pino cannot be used with single-wheel trailers. However, a Weber hitch can be easily installed.

Where can I buy a bike or trike from Hase Bikes?

Our bikes and trikes can be purchased from authorized dealers (Find a dealer) or directly from our showroom, aka the “Schaltwerk” in Waltrop.

Which bikes and trikes from Hase Bikes can be used for tandem riding?

The most obvious answer is our semi-recumbent tandem Pino. However, our trikes can also be connected using a Tandem Coupling,in which case the front wheel of the rear trike must be removed. When riding two trikes as a tandem, it is important that the rear trike not have an electric motor.

What models are available?

Hase Bikes manufactures a range of specialized bikes and trikes. In addition to its Pino semi-recumbent tandem, there are various adaptive trikes both for kids (Trix, Trets) and adults (Kettwiesel, Trigo). In addition, the Gravit is a versatile cargo bike that is available in two different versions for either city use or gravel-biking.

Why do the trikes from Hase Bikes have two wheels in back and one in the front?

Hase Bikes only builds so-called delta trikes because we’re convinced that it’s the best trike design. Deltas have two wheels in back and one wheel in front that does the steering; the recumbent seat is positioned in the rear third of the trike between the front and rear axles. This design is associated with exceptional stability and good traction. More information on the advantages of our delta trikes can be found here: Delta trike advantages.

Does Hase Bikes also offer S-Pedelecs?

No. All of our models with an electric motor have a maximum pedal-assist speed of 25 km/h (15 mph) and are therefore legally classified as bicycles in most regions (depending on local laws).

What motors does Hase Bikes offer?

The Shimano EP8 (as an option for the Kettwiesel, Lepus, and Pino) is a very lightweight mid-motor (2.6 kg/5.7 lb) with a magnesium housing and a high maximum torque (85 Nm). With heat-conducting materials and a larger molded-in surface area, it is well-protected against overheating. On our trikes, it can be used in combination with a differential for excellent hill-climbing performance. The Shimano Steps E6100 (for the Kettwiesel, Gravit, Lepus, and Pino) is a mid-motor that provides pedal assistance up to a speed of 25 km/h (15 mph). The Shimano Steps E5000 (only for the Trigo) is the perfect motor for urban terrain or your daily commute.

Can I retrofit an electric motor to my trike or bike from Hase Bikes?

For its Trigo, Hase Bikes offers a Shimano Steps retrofit kit (6100 motor system) that must be installed by an authorized dealer. The retrofitting of a motor to any other model, e.g. by a dealer, would automatically invalidate the Hase Bikes warranty.
